Sabine Fire & Rescue Application (PDF)


Compensated Volunteers:

No previous experience or training is required to become a compensated volunteer with Sabine FD. Whether you are interested in fire service and/or emergency medical service (EMS) or becoming a driver/operator, the department can provide the training you need. Sabine FD will cover your fire academy certification training through available grant funding and we also perform training exercises internally.


If you would like to become a volunteer with Sabine FD, download an application return it to Station 2 (4589 FM 1252 W, Kilgore, TX).

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be of good physical and mental condition.


The following steps must be completed to meet the SFD requirements before membership can be accepted.


  1. Complete SFD application with reference contact numbers
  2. Personal reference checks
  3. Approval by Fire Chief
  4. Criminal background check (no felony convictions or pending felony indictment)
  5. Medical Screening and Drug Screen
  6. DMV status check
  7. Complete the 4 required FEMA / NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, IS-800 online courses. Certificates of completion must be provided.
  8. Complete the Courage to Be Safe online course. Certificate of completion must be provided.
  9. Complete the National Traffic Incident Management Responder online course. Certificate of completion must be provided.
  10. If accepted as a firefighter trainee, you will be required to successfully complete TCFP Basic Fire Academy within the first year of membership. If your position is something other than a firefighter, you may be required to complete training specific to your position.
