About Sabine Fire and Rescue


Founded in 1985, the Sabine Fire & Rescue provides fire, rescue and emergency medical first responder assistance to the citizens of the Liberty City community in the unincorporated portion of western Gregg County, TX. We are a combination department (paid staff and volunteers) answering over 700 calls for service each year. Sabine Fire & Rescue is one of the fastest growing fire departments in East Texas, operating two fire stations with 10 apparatus to assist in a variety of emergency situations in Liberty City and surrounding areas. Our district serves over 8,500 residents within approximately 45 square miles, plus many visitors traveling through our community. Sabine Fire & Rescue strives to provide highly trained men and women working together to serve the citizens and visitors of western Gregg County.


Sabine Fire & Rescue has an active contractual agreement with Gregg County Emergency Services District No. 2 to provide emergency Fire and Rescue Services within the defined Sabine fire district. In addition, we have an active agreement with CHRISTUS EMS as a First Responder Organization and we are licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) to provide First Responders during medical emergencies. Mutual aid agreements are in place with the following neighboring departments to ensure that resources are available upon request.

With the adoption of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Sabine Fire & Rescue is continually striving to enhance its emergency abilities to better serve the citizens during their time of need.


The members of the Sabine Fire & Rescue dedicate endless amounts of time and energy to keep the department running smoothly so we are prepared to respond to your emergency 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.


Timeline of Sabine Fire & Rescue Important Dates:

  • 1985 — Sabine Volunteer Fire Department Established
  • 2013 — Founding Fire Chief, Joe Johnson, retires
  • 2013 — Richard Sisk appointed Fire Chief
  • 2014 — Gregg County Emergency Services District #2 is created, voters adopting $0.10 per one hundred dollars valuation
  • 2014 — Second fire station on Wilkins Road is opened
  • 2015 — Full-time career Fire Chief, Richard Sisk, is hired as 1st employee for the district
  • 2016 — SFD begins M-F day coverage, 7 am – 4 pm, and hires two full-time career Firefighters
  • 2017 — Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating is lowered from 09/10 to a 03/3Y, lowering homeowners insurance rates across the district
  • 2019 — Voters adopted a 1.5% local sales and use tax on goods and services in GCESD #2
  • 2020 — Full-time Executive Assistant to the Chief is hired
  • 2021 — SFD changes M-F day coverage to 7 am – 5 pm and hires a third full-time career Firefighter
  • 2021 — SFD opens 24/7 Dispatch Center and hires three full-time career Dispatchers
  • 2022 — SFD changes coverage to 7 days a week, shift changes to 7 am – 7 pm and hires two additional full-time career Firefighters, for a total of 10 full-time employees; 5 Firefighters, 3 Dispatchers & 2 Administrators / Firefighters
  • 2023 — Gregg County ESD #2 signs contracts to begin construction / renovation of Fire Stations 1 and 2
